Why cup conversions vary

“Cup” is not one universal measurement. A US customary cup is about 236.6 ml, while many metric recipes use 250 ml. Australian tablespoon standards can also differ. For baking or thickening starches, weight is usually more reliable than volume.

Conversion limits

Weight and volume are not interchangeable without knowing ingredient density. One cup of flour does not weigh the same as one cup of beans or oil. This tool converts within the same measurement type only.
